Sad Loss Of Rosie's Babies

Rosie's babies were due on our wedding anniversary, June 12th. The two-three weeks leading up to her whelping date were difficult. We knew something was not right as we witnessed dark discharge. We worked with our vet and tried to keep an eye on her for as much of the day as we could between myself and Richard. It was a stressful time as we tried to hold out and hope for the best, taking her temperature 2-3 times a day, watching for signs of a spike, for an infection, we hoped that maybe, one or more pups might survive. Sadly, they did not.
After a week of nurturing Rosie and making sure she recovered from what turned out to be a very low grade infection connected with her split heat cycle, we decided to take her to town and give her a night out with us. We ate ice cream first and then went for a lovely, evening hike together and just gave thanks that we still had her. We thought about the little beings that once were. All being well, we will try to breed Rosie next spring.

Pistachio Ice Cream Please!

Rosie's treat, she's partial to a bit of ice cream
