Senior Losses

We experienced the loss of a number of our seniors as we headed into the Fall of 2016.  It was a very difficult and sad time for us.  As a forever home for our sled pets, we experience the cycle of life from raising them as puppies and watching them bloom into amazing dogs and athletes. We then spend hours upon hours together each and every day. We train and run our dogs ourselves and as all of them are house trained, they take it in turn to be in the house with us each and every night. We sleep together, eat together , work together and play together.  So when we lose one of our furry family members, it is indeed a heavy loss to us all.  We lost Tiger-Lilly, then Washakie developed a fast growing cancerous tumor on his leg and only had weeks left with us.  Both Lilly and Washakie needed assistance to move around towards the end. We held and carried them and reassured them of our love and commitment to them.  No sooner had we said our good-byes to Lilly and Washakie, we then said a painful good-bye to Zudnik. Zudnik was 15 yrs old, he was still in amazing good health until his last few weeks.  He leaves behind one remaining sibling, Tonka, who is almost 16 years old and is still able to walk around, he eats well and loves very short walks and being in with a bunch of girls.  Tonka is our last remaining physical link to our very first sled dog, Sasquatch, when our journey first began.....

Early Summer Update

Puppy training is going great. They are super smart and so devoted for such pups. I am able to spend a lot of time with them working on command work and setting them up for a successful season ahead. They are all super sweet and play well with the rest of their kennel buddies. Daily sprints in the 2 acre fenced in garden known as 'the secret garden' has been a blessing during this hot weather. It is nice and shady in the secret garden with lots of boulders to hop onto, trees for shade and various hidden places for the dogs to dig and have fun playing with each other. The older dogs are doing well considering the heat.  We recently celebrated Tonka and Zudnik turning 14 years old. They are having a blast and recently taken to being in with a bunch of girls including the puppy girls, Chimbey and Tinkerbell. As a forever home, our dogs spend their entire lives with us.  We work with what we have and our joy is bringing out the best in each dog, working hard on communication, obedience and performance. All our dogs are house trained so every night, there is always a bunch of them in the house .... on the sofa or sleeping on the bed with us!

Our 2015-2016 Season

We didn't have much of a snowy winter to brag about but despite the lack of snow, we were super busy with tours.  The dogs were in great shape and all was going well for a season of tours and races. However with the lack of snow , almost all the races we were interested in were canceled.   It was a shame because we had the best Fall training in many years with the dogs hitting mileage distances of 25-28 mile runs at the end of October/early November.  We made the most of the season and enjoyed many wonderful guests and a few fun local races with the four wheeler.  Our season ended mid-April which was pretty darn good. We were able to squeak in quite a few fun puppy runs. All four pups are now harness broken and ready for training at the beginning of September 2016.  They are superb! Mushtoberfest

Great weekend with some awesome people, each with individual goals, different sized teams and lots of wonderful dogs.  We were mentored by Brent Sass, Mike Ellis and Christine Richardson. The weekend of activities, talks, slide shows and demos just seemed to fly by. It was really wonderful to be able to just concentrate on the dogs and training and leave everything else behind. I was able to get some young leaders out front who showed great potential for this coming season. I was super thrilled with the dogs, their good manners and willingness to camp out Check-point style for a few hours.
